Do you ever feel tired in your “brain” or sluggish or just feel that you need some peace and quiet without the never-ending chatter from the little voice in your head? Meditation is the key.
“Meditation can be defined as a practice where an individual focuses their mind on a particular object, thought or activity to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm state.” (Wikipedia)
So why should you meditate?
One good reason would be to quiet down that little voice in your head and all that chatter which is no good for you (unless you have used it to your advantage via any of the techniques I have covered en earlier posts; burning desire, vision board, autosuggestion and brainwashing).
Most of us have a busy schedule with lots of things to do and there never seems to be an “end” to it. We might get both stressed and anxious about all the things we have to do and on top of that it makes us physically and mentally tired. When this happens and yes it does happen to most of us, we need to start take control! I want you to be living your life on your terms and if you feel even slightly exhausted, you need to do something about it as everything is secondary. We need to have harmony in our lives and it all start with our health where the mental part is an extremely important piece.
I have already written extensively about the importance of our mind, our mindset, how thoughts become things and how our Reticular Activating System works for us (well at least if we make it work for us!).
If we are not in control over our thoughts, there will be an endless chatter and most of it will unfortunately be negative and stick in our subconscious mind via autosuggestion (continuous repetition). If you don’t take control over it, it will take control over you and you will be living a “partial” life where you will be run by your mind chatter. I do not want that to happen to you or anyone else and that is why I want you to pay attention to it. Being aware is the first step towards control.
The second step to introduce into your life is meditation because it has so many positive effects on us. Meditation has been proven to reduce stress, why else do you think so many successful people meditate every day?! Have a look at the post and get inspired!
Meditation basically helps your brain to re-charge simply by you teaching it how to relax and be quiet (or focus on what YOU want it to focus on). By doing this consistently, you will improve your memory, learning capability and focus. It will help you being alert and stay concentrated for longer without getting tired nor stressed (need scientific proof, read this)! Your creativity will also improve because you will have less clutter in your brain and your decision-making skills will improve for the same reason.
How to get started
With today’s technology it is actually easier than ever to get started. Just use an app like Headspace or Calm. Personally I started off with Headspace and I think their guided meditation was a great way to get going. It is very easy to use and you can start with only ten minutes per day (yes, you have ten minutes because if you don’t even have that, you don’t have a life and then you probably need this more than anyone else!). Headspace has a free version called “Take10”, which will guide you for 10 minutes per day for 10 days.
That’s really all you need to know to get started. Just download the app and follow the instructions and it could not be easier!
The ONE thing you have to bear in mind though is that you should not expect a complete change immediately. As with everything it takes practice and a bit of patience. I would expect you to start feeling a difference within the first five times or so (as long as you really try). If you find it difficult at first, just know that you need it even more then. Once you have done it for a week you should feel a noticeable difference in terms of the mind chatter and also how you are able to stay “without” thoughts for longer than when you started.
Personally I have manged to limit my “chatter” and learned to be an observer instead of reacting to it and also to quiet it down significantly compared to a few years back. Still what I notice, even with just ten minutes, is a calmness and a mental clarity which sometimes feels like I am razor-sharp both in vision and in mind.
With plenty of things going on and having suffered from Brain Fog some years back, this is an amazing feeling and I truly feel like I am on top of the world and nothing can stop me!
What is even better is that meditation is so easy, you need nothing but yourself and a few minutes to get into that space and it is available to everyone, anytime.
I know it might take some more practice for some than for others and I am not saying I am able to get myself into that state of mind every time but that is also why I need to be consistent because the result is truly amazing. I would love for all of you to experience the same thing every time!
I urge you to take ten minutes from your day today and invest it in “healing” your body and mind as the result can be truly mind-blowing!
Actions to take:
- Commit to 10 minutes of meditation for 10 days with the Headspace app!
- Read this post on why successful people meditate
It all starts with one small step and this one only takes ten minutes so take it now!
