Apply the 80/20 rule as 20% of what you do will give you 80% of the result!
I am sure that most of you have heard about this 80/20 rule, either when studying or reading something linked to business as that is where it was originated. This principle has been studied widely and there are loads of resources now supporting it not only in business (where 80% of your results come from your top 20% clients) but every other area of our lives as well!
This is absolutely amazing because if you use it wisely and effectively, it means that you will free up tons of time and still accomplish the same results you are already getting. Even better is that the more you use it the more you will get out of it as there is no limit to this rule!
What is this 80/20 rule really about?
“The Pareto principle (also known as the 80/20 rule, the law of the vital few, or the principle of factor sparsity) states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the cause.” (Wikipedia)
So in plain language we can achieve much more with a lot less effort regardless of what aspect of our lives we are looking at. The rule seems to work in most situation and I would ask you to just look at yourself and what you are doing, most likely you will draw the same conclusion. If you are in business, I would be very surprised if this would not be very close to your reality (it used to be for me).
Some scientist have even managed to scale it further and further, meaning that if you were to look at your top 20% customers, you can probably again apply the 80/20 rule. So within your top customers, 20% of them will most likely stand for most of your revenues.
It has even been proved that the wing flaps of a butterfly can cause a hurricane (Edward Lorenz)!
Why is that interesting you might ask? Because even seemingly small things can have a major impact if the timing is right, causing a sequence of things happening. This means that everything we do really matters and the impact can be significant. By using the 80/20 rule you can increase the probability of the right thing to happen for you and especially if you use some of the other techniques discussed in other posts like: Autosuggestion, Reticular Activating System, Faith, Subconscious mind etc.
Why you must care!
Well if you didn’t, that would be pretty stupid and especially if you are: complaining about lack of results, lack of money, lack of time, lack of good friends, lack of energy, lack of fitness and I could go on and on and on… Basically you are/would be wasting your life (or 80% of it as it would be spent doing things of little value).
What I really want you to understand is that you can apply this rule to anything in your life. Especially if you want more whilst using less of your time and energy to get it! Let me give you a clear example. Say that you want to improve your health. You don’t want to go to the gym for two hours every day because you “don’t have time”, basically it is not prioritized enough but we can call it “lack of time”.
I am 100% sure that you can get the same results you are after without spending 14 hours in the gym every week. If you were to spend 3 hours (approximately) or even less you could accomplish the same thing. Why and how? Simple, just learn from the best, what and how they do it and you will be able to do the same and get the same results! I would even claim to be fitter than most and I do on average probably less than 3 hours of exercise per week! What I do know is that when I am exercising I want to achieve the maximum results in the least time possible (I have other things I prefer to do and guess you feel the same way).
This was just one simple example and if you think about your life and your goals (as I really hope you have used the resources within this platform to set some clear goals for you and your family), I am sure you will find the same thing over and over again!
It’s time to get serious about getting the results you truly deserve!
How to actually get more out of anything!
Start by looking at your life as it is today and look at the goals you have set for yourself. Think about the results you are getting and make sure to figure out where they are coming from. Most likely you will find that there are a few key drivers of every aspect. What we want you to do is to notice them and LEVERAGE on them to get those results you want even faster (post on leverage here). When you do, you can decide exactly how you want to spend that time you just made available :).
If you have used my goal setting template, make sure to use the individual tabs where you wrote down the steps you need to take to reach your goals. Go through those steps again, applying the 80/20 rule and you will reach your desired outcome so much faster! If you have not figured out your goals yet, I suggest you do it right away, how else are you ever going to be able to live life on your terms?! Just click here to download our template!
Modeling! Learn from the best by studying what they do and how they do it. They don’t do shit by chance because if they did, they would never have become the best within their field! Why would you waste your time trying to figure out what to do when someone else has most likely already spent years or even decades figuring it out (like your role model or an expert) and you can just learn from them? I would recommend you to read my post on Modeling as well as Brainwashing.
If you have your burning desire for what you really want and you know exactly why you must achieve it then use our goal setting template and apply the 80/20 rule when writing down the steps you need to take and you will soon be living life on your terms!
Actions to take:
- Goal setting – go through your goals based on the 80/20 – rule
- Apply the above findings now!
- Modeling – Learn from the best (this is king when combined with 80/20!)
- Leverage – read my post and use it to your advantage
- Use No Extra Time (NET) wisely and you will have “more time”!
- Celebrate like crazy (or in relation to your results)!
Time is our most precious resource, it’s finite so we owe it to ourselves to make sure we use it wisely and the 80/20 principle is a great way of doing just that, achieving much more using much less!
